Privacy policy

Last updated: 14 August 2026

Pleased is a dating service operated by Debuggex Inc. ("Pleased", "we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect, the purposes for which we use it, the parties with whom we share it, the periods for which we retain it, and the rights available to you.

We apply a single global standard to all members. Rather than varying rights by location, we extend the protections of the most stringent applicable regime to every member.

Data controller: Debuggex Inc., 222 Finch Ave W #213, Toronto, ON M2R 1M6, Canada<br> Privacy contact: support@pleased.app

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account and Identity Information

  • Email address. Your account identifier. Pleased does not use passwords; access is authenticated by a one-time code sent to your email address. The same address is used for email notifications.
  • Telephone number. Verified once during registration for the purposes of fraud prevention and abuse control.
  • Date of birth. Collected to establish that you meet our minimum age requirement. Other members are shown your age only.
  • Display name.

1.2 Profile Information

  • Biographical text, gender, languages spoken, profile attributes such as education and relationship intent, and any prompt responses you provide.
  • Photographs you upload.
  • Compatibility and personality responses, together with the matching preferences you set, including any responses you designate as dealbreakers.

1.3 Location Information

  • Approximate device location, collected from your device with your permission. We do not determine your location from your IP address.
  • Location preferences — the cities, regions, countries or distance range you specify.

We do not disclose your precise location to other members or to any third party. Other members are shown only a general locality description and an approximate distance.

1.4 Service Usage Information

  • Your expressions of interest, matches, blocks and unmatches.
  • Messages and images you send through the service.
  • Records of video calls, including participants, time and duration. Calls are not recorded and no call content is retained.
  • Read receipts and an approximate indication of when you were last active.

1.5 Identity Verification Information (Optional)

If you elect to verify your profile, we collect selfie images, including a liveness check, and compare the facial image against your profile photograph. This constitutes biometric information.

Before any capture, we present a consent notice describing what is collected, the purpose of the comparison, who may access it, and the applicable retention period. We record your consent and the time it was given, and we process this information solely on the basis of that consent.

Verification images are not displayed to other members and do not appear on any member-facing part of the service. Verification is optional.

1.6 Device and Technical Information

  • Session information — device platform and a device description, enabling you to review and revoke access.
  • Push notification identifiers, where you enable push notifications.
  • IP address and device identifiers, recorded in connection with authentication requests for the purpose of detecting fraud and abuse. This information is not used for profiling.
  • Time zone and language settings, used to schedule and localise communications.

1.7 Safety Information

Reports submitted by you or concerning you, blocks, correspondence with our safety team, and the outcomes of content and conduct reviews.

1.8 Payment Information

None. Pleased is provided free of charge. We do not collect payment information and hold no financial records relating to you.

2. Sensitive and Special Category Information

Certain information we process constitutes special category data under Article 9 of the GDPR and equivalent categories under other applicable law:

  • Information revealing sexual orientation, comprising the genders you indicate you are seeking and the corresponding preference you set.
  • Biometric information, where you elect to verify your profile.
  • Certain compatibility responses, which may reveal information concerning health, religious belief or political opinion, depending on the questions you choose to answer.

We process this information solely on the basis of your explicit consent, provided at the time you supply it. You may withdraw consent by amending or deleting the relevant information or by deleting your account. Withdrawal of consent in respect of the information described in the first item above will prevent us from providing the matching service.

Where you block another member, that member is not notified.

7. Retention and Deletion

7.1 Deleting Your Account

You may delete your account at any time through the service. We require you to re-authenticate before the request is accepted. A 14-day cancellation period then applies, during which you may reverse the request by signing in. During that period your profile is withdrawn from the service and your sessions are terminated, but no information is destroyed.

Following the cancellation period, deletion is completed on our active systems within 30 days of your original request. Information held in backups expires separately, and the total period for which your information may persist in any form does not exceed 90 days.

7.2 Other Retention Periods

  • Message content is retained for up to 90 days following the closure of a conversation, for the purpose of investigating reports, and is then deleted.
  • Verification images are retained for 60 days.
  • Technical logs are retained for no more than 90 days and do not contain message content, images or complete telephone numbers.

7.3 Information Retained Following Deletion

  • Enforcement records, where your account was subject to a prohibition, retained in de-identified form and limited to what is necessary to prevent circumvention of that prohibition.
  • Reports you submitted concerning other members, with your identity removed, as part of the record relating to the member concerned.
  • Material subject to mandatory child-safety reporting and preservation obligations, retained for the period required by law.
  • Information subject to a valid legal hold, for the duration of that hold.
  • A record that a deletion request was made and completed, containing no personal information.
  • Aggregate statistics which are not linked to you.

We retain no financial records, as the service is provided free of charge.

8. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and obtain a copy;

  • Erase your account and associated information;
  • Restrict or object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests;
  • Receive your information in a portable format;
  • Withdraw consent previously given, including in respect of identity verification and special category information;
  • Obtain human review of decisions based on automated processing; and
  • Not be subject to discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, contact support@pleased.app. Where we receive and are able to verify a deletion request submitted by other means, we treat it as equivalent to a request made within the service, and the statutory period runs from the date of receipt.

You are also entitled to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, including the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, your national supervisory authority within the EU or EEA, or the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom.

These rights arise, according to your place of residence, under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended, the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (Brazil), or comparable legislation.

9. Minimum Age

The service is intended solely for adults. You must be 18 years of age or older to register. We do not knowingly collect personal information from any person under 18, and we terminate any account we identify as belonging to such a person.

10. International Transfers

We operate from Canada and engage service providers located in other jurisdictions. Personal information is accordingly transferred outside your country of residence.

Transfers from the EEA and the United Kingdom to Debuggex Inc. in Canada are made in reliance on the adequacy decisions adopted by the European Commission and by the United Kingdom in respect of Canadian organisations subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. Transfers to service providers established elsewhere, including in the United States, are made in reliance on Standard Contractual Clauses together with the safeguards set out in our agreements with those providers.

You may obtain further information about these safeguards by contacting support@pleased.app.

11. Security

We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure and destruction. These include authentication that does not rely on stored passwords, storage of authentication credentials in irreversible form, removal of embedded metadata from uploaded images, encryption of information in transit, and restriction of staff access to those with a legitimate need.

No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and we do not warrant absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Where an amendment is material, we will provide notice within the service or by email before it takes effect, and will update the date stated above.
